"RECHERCHES URGENTES": BECQUEREL REFERS TO HIS ON-GOING STUDIES IN RADIOACTIVITY

Becquerel politely declines the correspondant's request to contribute a paper for an end-of-century survey of science. Referring to his studies in radioactivity, Becquerel claims that he is absorbed in urgent research "dans un domaine que nous avons creé" (a field which we have created) and that he does not want to be forestalled by a foreigner.
