FIRST EDITION, offprint issue. A VERY FINE PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY BROGLIE TO EMILE BOREL on the front wrapper: "Avec le respectueux hommage de l'auteur." In this paper, Broglie demonstrated how mechanics (including wave mechanics) could be simplified by adopting a five-dimensional universe such as that proposed by Kaluza and Kramers. Broglie's paper was published the same year that Davisson, Germer, Thomson and Reid verified experimentally Broglie's concept of matter waves, which led to Broglie's award of the Nobel Prize in 1929. This copy was presented to the eminent French mathematician Emile Borel, whose "innovations are essential to twentieth-century analysis and probability" (DSB).
