PAULI, Wolfgang (1900-58). Quantentheorie und Magneton. Offprint from: Physikalische Zeitschrift, 21 Jahr., 1920.
4o. Unbound as issued (short tear at fold, some browning). Provenance: THEODORE VON KáRMáN, (his library markings).
FIRST EDITION, AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION OFFPRINT ISSUE with printed presentation statement ("überreicht vom Verfasser") on front wrapper. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed above the printed statement: "Herrn Dr. Hapf mit vielen grüáen". Pauli's paper on atomic magnetism, entitled "Quantum theory and the magneton," published when he was only twenty years old, first introduced "the fundamental unit of the magnetic moment of an electron in a Bohr orbit" (Mehra & Rechenberg, Hist. Development of Quantum Theory I, p. 388; see pp. 388-89 for a detailed discussion of this paper). Pauli won the 1945 Nobel Prize for physics for his discovery of the exclusion principle. DSB.
