FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, copy "B" of 15 signed copies on Japan, from an edition of 165 (with an additional 20 copies printed for export to France). INSCRIBED BY BOYLE TO HER LOVER on the printed dedication page: "March 29 1929 And for Laurence Kay." The lettering "B" in place of a number suggests that this is an out-of-series copy.
Two years after this publication, Boyle divorced her husband and married Vail, an American artist and writer. They later divorced and Vail married Peggy Guggenheim. Boyle lived in Europe for more than 20 years before returning to the U.S. and lecturing at many leading universities.
