CRANE, Hart. White Buildings. [New York:] Boni & Liveright, 1926.
8o. Original blue cloth-backed boards, boards covered with black-and-beige textured paper (some wear at extremities); printed dust jacket (spine faded and partly split along lower joint). Provenance: John Wolcott (presentation inscription).
FIRST EDITION, second issue with the cancel title-page. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY CRANE on the front free endpaper: "For John Wolcott in memoriam the Cleveland days 'where cuckoos clucked to finches' Hart Crane." Wolcott was most likely a childhood friend whom Crane left behind when, at the age of 17, he abandoned Cleveland for New York. Crane's inscription quotes a line from the second part of his "For the Marriage of Faustus and Helen" and appears on p. 41. Schwarz and Schweik A1.
