Violet Benson, the sister of Lady Diana Cooper (Mrs. Stitch in Evelyn Waugh's novels) was Ann Fleming's aunt by marriage, twice over. First, Ann's father's brother, Lord Elcho, married Lady Violet in 1911; second, Ann's mother's sister, Kathleen ("Kakoo"), married Lady Violet's brother John, the ninth Duke of Rutland. Lord Elcho died in 1916, and five years later Lady Violet married Guy Benson. Ann, was quite fond of her "Aunt Letty."
