FIRST EDITION OF KNOWLES'S FIRST BOOK, his masterful coming-of-age novel and required reading for virtually every high school student in America. PRESENTATION COPY, WITH AN OUTSTANDING INSCRIPTION BY KNOWLES TO TED PATRICK on the title: "To Ted-- Who was the first person ever to publish my writing, this first copy of my first book-- With affection and gratitude, Jack. May 5, 1959." Ted Patrick edited Holiday, a glossy travel magazine with literary overtones. Knowles had contributed several pieces to the magazine in the late 1950s.

Bergman was the son and successor of the founder of the original Womrath's bookstore on Lexington Avenue in New York.
