Circa 1760, blue interlaced L's, the stand incised with a script L, the painting attributed to Viellard
The slightly domed cover with gilt berried branch finial, the bowl with entwined branch handles, each piece painted in a muted palette with attributes of gardening, argriculture and other pastoral pursuits arranged on a hill overlooking a distant landscape and reserved in a kidney-shaped panel within a gilt ciselé band and a further gilt laurel wreath on a white ground

Lot Essay

The landscape painting found on the present example is tradionally ascribed to André-Vincent Viellard, père, recorded at Vincennes and Sèvres 1752-1790. See The Collection of the Earl of Rosebery, Mentmore Towers, Buckinghamshire; Sotheby's on the Premises, 24 May 1977, lot 2054 for a pink-ground ecuelle, cover and stand similarly painted, also unmarked.
