Jean-Jacques Dieu was active at Sèvres 1777-1791, 1794-1798, 1801-1811. He is recorded as a gilder and as a painter in a variety of styles including chinoiseries, flowers and patterns such as the delicate arabesques on the present cup and saucer. His mark is a play on words - a triangle enclosing the Hebrew word for God or, in French, Dieu.
