A PAIR OF RESTAURATION ORMOLU AND PATINATED-BRONZE FOUR-LIGHT CANDELABRA
Second quarter 19th century, one variously inscribed L.A.H, both stamped with cyphers
Each with a central bobèche flanked by three foliate and anthemia scrolled arms, all supported on a single tapering shaft, one depicting a putto holding a tambourine, the other a triangle, on a spreading pedestal base decorated with classical maidens and trophies and a square plinth, drilled for elecrticity with consequential minor replacements

Lot Essay

The modelling of this pair of candelabra relates to a five-branch wall-light in the Palais de l'Elysée that is illustrated in E. Dumonthier, Les Bronzes du Mobilier National, Paris. The Palais de l'Elysée model has a very similar putto also with a raised tambourine, although on this example the putto bears wings.
