Circa 1770, previously decorated
The D-shaped formerly white marble tops, now painted a mottled orange/white, above a pierced frieze of scrolling acanthus, on tapering, fluted legs joined by a stretcher with swagg-draped urn finial, variations to carving
33¾in. (86cm.) high with marble, one 1/4in. shorter without marble, 43½in. (110.5cm) and 44in. (112cm.) wide, 20in. (51cm.) and 20½in. (52cm.) deep (2)

Lot Essay

A nearly identical Louis XVI giltwood console table doubtlessly executed in the same workshop as this pair of tables was in the Salon Bleu or the Salon Chinois of the Tsarsköe Selo Palace in St. Petersburg (G.K. Loukomski, Mobilier & Décoration des Anciens Palais Impériaux Russes, Paris, 1928, plate XXXVI).
