Lot Essay

The bookcase's arched glazing derives from a pattern of 'Doors for Bookcases' published in Thomas Sheraton's The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, London, 1793, part III, pl. XXIX, no.1. The bookcase compares to an example sold Christie's London, 16 September 1999, lot 113 which exhibits virtually the same pattern glazing and proportion.
