The tulipwood-banded rectangular hinged top with demilune panel bordered by husk chains and with foliate anthemia to the front corners, enclosing an ivory velvet-lined surface, the frieze with foliate medallion, on square tapering legs, with white chalk marks to the underside 15706

Lot Essay

The table's simple yet elegant engraved inlaid details recall the work of cabinet-maker George Simson, working at 19 St. Paul's Church yard from 1787 (see C. Gilbert, ed., Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, pp.424-425, fig.848-849).
