Each stand on four paw feet with incurved gadroon stretchers, with leaf-clad handles, and detachable fluted hot water dish and plain liner, each shaped circular dish with gadrooned border, the fluted domed cover with gadrooned border and detachable lion's mask and calyx handle, the covers engraved with Royal accolé coats-of-arms, the dishes engraved twice with crests, each marked on dish, cover, handle and calyx

Lot Essay

The engraved arms are those of Battenberg accolé with England with Saxony in pretence, for H.R.H. Prince Henry Maurice of Battenberg KG. who married, in 1885, Princess Beatrice, 5th daughter of Queen Victoria. These dishes formed part of an extensive service by Paul Storr, weighing a total of 4882oz., which sold from Princess Beatrice's apartments at Kensington Palace at Christie's on May 4, 1932.
