A commentary on the poems of Ibn Marhal, Arabic manuscript on European paper, 25ff. with 38ll. of tiny sepia maghribi, titles in red and blue, opening folio with gold illuminated heading, the name Muhammad in gold throughout, final folio with colophon in gold within border of gold interlace signed by the scribe Ibn Hamza Abi Abdallah Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sheikh al-Zakariya Yayha ibn Abdallah Bakar and dated Jumada I ?43, some damp staining, modern maroon morocco Ottoman style binding with flap with tooled medallions

Lot Essay

A note on the opening flyleaf gives some information about the author of the original poems of which this text is a commentary. His name is given as Abu'l Hukm Malik ibn al-Marhal al-Andalusi al-Malaqi al-Bisti who lived in Fes and died in AH 699 (1299-1300 AD).
