A MINA'I POTTERY CONICAL BOWL
Central Iran, circa 1200
On vertical foot, the white interior painted in underglaze blue and with a variety of overglaze colours with a central prince seated on a spotted elephant, a mahout with ankus on its head, a negro figure on its rump, most of the sides plain, a band of benedictory kufic on a ground of delicate meandering blue leafy vine around the rim, the exterior with a freely written blue naskh inscription, repaired breaks, one area of restoration to rim, generally good condition
7¼in. (18.5cm.) diam.

The inscription around the rim reads:
al-'izz al-da'im wa al-iqbal al-za'id wa al-nasr al-ghalib wa al-'izz al-qa'im wa al-jadd al-sa'id wa al-'umr al-salim wa al-'aysh al-na'im ..... wa al-dawla wa al-salama wa al-baqa li-sahibihi (Perpetual glory, increasing prosperity, triumphant victory, firm glory, rising good-fortune, safe life, tranquil life .... and wealth, well being and long life to its owner).
The exterior inscriptions are undeciphered.
