Lot Essay

Large cintamani motifs are found originally on dishes of the 1540s. Their appearance in the second half of the sixteenth century is extremely rare, although there is a dish with comparable distribution of large cintamani in the Barlow collection (Fehérvári, Géza: Islamic Pottery, a comprehensive study based on the Barlow Collection, London, 1973, no.248, p.165 and pl.102b.).
