In their discussion of the group of dishes closely related to the present example, Atasoy and Raby link it to the group of prunus blossom dishes such as lot 317 (op.cit, p.254). Both experiment with large blocks of coloured ground, particularly with red, which is rarer to find in other pieces. The blossoms along the sides of this vessel are also clearly derived from prunus. An almost identical dish to this is was in the Adda Collection (Rackham, Bernard: Islamic Pottery and Italian Maiolica, London, 1959, no.157) and four further dishes are from the same family (Atasoy and Raby, op.cit, nos.512, 513, 516 and 517, p.251).
