PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION, CALIFORNIA Lots 178-187 were given by Edward Weston to his sitter, Fay Fuqua in 1933. According to Amy Conger (Edward Weston: Photographs), Fay attended high school with Weston's friend and dealer, Jake Zeitlin and later followed him to Los Angeles, where she worked occasionally at his gallery. Fay posed for Weston several times; she became a memorable "inverted vase" in his 1928 nude study (Conger, fig. 555). The 1933 sitting is recorded in Weston's Record book (p. 167), including negative numbers and the number of prints made. According to this, he made two prints of all but lots 180 and 185, from which he made four and five prints respectively.
