Formed as an upturned shell supported by three further shells on a trefoil rockwork base applied with shells and seaweed, the interior painted with a willow and pierced rockwork beside a fence below a pendant spearhead border (a crack to the rim of the bowl, some chipping and staining)

Lady Charlotte Schreiber bought a pair of salts similar to the above lot very early her collecting days, from the Walker's sale at Sotheby's in April 1868, for which she paid the very high price of £4/8/=. See Bernard Rackham Catalogue (1915) (not illustrated), p. 22, no. 90.
