Lot Essay

Olga Alexandrovna Orlova (1807-1880) born Zherebtsova, married Count Aleksei Feodorovich Orlov in 1826. Aleksei Feodorovich Orlov received the title of Count for his fidelity to the throne during the Decembrist insurrection in 1825 and Prince in 1856 for his services. He was the executor on behalf of Emperor Nicholas I. A man of considerable character, he is commemorated in Pushkin's poem entitled "To Orlov, who put me off embarking on a military career".
