A GERMAN SILVER-GILT RELIQUARY
Augsburg, circa 1702, mark probably that of Johann Joachim Lutz I
Cross-form with a hinged cover and sliding clasp, surmounted by a ball finial with a ring handle, the cover engraved with scrolling foliage surrounding a crucifix, the reverse engraved with similar foliage surrounding a coat-of-arms below an Electoral bonnet, the interior of the cross engraved with sequential numbers 26-30, marked on base, also engraved No. 5 1702
5in. (12.7cm.) long overall; 6oz. 10dwt. (212gr.)

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Charles III Philip Wittelsbach, Elector of the Palatinate (1661-1741)
