A UNIQUE ENSEMBLE OF MAGNUMS OF FIVE VINTAGES FROM THE CELLARS OF THE FIVE FIRST-GROWTH CHATEAUX OF BORDEAUX.
Château Lafite--Vintage 1982magnum (1)
Many notes. Grand classic vintage and wine. Consistently admiring notes. Still impressive deep and youthful. Briefly summing up 'mouthfilling', so much on show, so much left to show. Last tasted August 2001. MB
Château Margaux--Vintage 1983magnum (1)
1983 was most successful in Margaux and Château Margaux itself the star of the vintage. It also happened to be Paul Pontallier's first vintage at Margaux.
Many notes. Still youthful; the inimitable Margaux fragrance soaring out of the glass. Sweet, soft, rich. It fills the mouth with flavour and seems to last forever. Last tasted November 2000. MB
Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1986magnum (1)
All agree that Mouton is outstandingly the best 1986.
Packed tight with fruit it springs to life, with the richness of ripe grapes and alcohol. Intense, fragrant, fleshy, good length. Still tannic. Superb. MB
Château Haut-Brion--Vintage 1989magnum (1)
A wonderful wine. Haut-Brion at it's very best: deep, rich and spicy.
Fleshy, well endowed, now maturing. With beautifully evolved bouquet, sweet, full, rich. Lovely flavour yet with end grip that suggests further bottle ageing. MB
Château Latour--Vintage 1990magnum (1)
When last tasted (June 2000) it had wonderful depth and resonance, a classic cedary Pauillac nose; full flavoured, great length, still tannic of course. MB
