A RARE PAIR OF WHITE STAR LINE COMMEMORATIVE ALBUMS FOR THE LAUNCH (1889) AND DIAMOND JUBILEE REVIEW (1897) ABOARD R.M.S. TEUTONIC
the launch album with about sixty-five sepia photographs each approx. 10 x 12in. pasted to gilt edged annotated and dated card pages; including views of Teutonic in dry dock and at anchor, assorted views of her decks with officers and guests, interior passenger accomodation including the main saloons, grand stair, smoke room, library and an example of a state room, portraits of the captain, officers, crew, stewards and stewardesses mostly in groups, together with numerous group shots of guests aboard during the trial cruise, the visit of the Emperor of Germany, Prince Henry of Prussia and the Prince of Wales, details of guns and gun crews, views of the Royal Yacht Osborne and others; the Diamond Jubilee Spithead Review album of collotypes prepared and engraved by Stas. Walery and Company for private circulation, with presentation inscription with pasted autograph of Thomas Ismay, contents page, guest list, invitation, each image preceded by a title page and with approx. forty images on interiors, exteriors, the fleet, each crew department, guests, Turbinia at speed with her bows lifted, the last few pages detailing the construction of R.M.S. Oceanic, each album with full calf binding with marbled linings and gilt letters (some wear to covers, mild foxing on some of the card mounts), each -- 15 x 20in. (38 x 51cm.)
