Lot Essay

The wooden full-rigger Sea Breeze was built by M. Reed at Sunderland in 1856. Registered at 685 tons and measuring 149 feet in length with a 32 foot beam, she began her career sailing out of Bristol to Australia. Acquired by Blyth & Greene of London in 1859, she then ran to Mauritius for some years before being sold to Norwegian owners who changed her rig to that of a barque. Still trading in 1900, she disappears from record soon afterwards.
