The famed painter of history, genre, portraits and murals studied under his uncle Horace Vernet as well as Léon Cogniet. His Orientalist paintings most often depict a single figure capturing their personality and often functioning almost like a portrait. His debut at the Salon was in 1845 which won him the third place medal. Lecomte-Vernet was the artist for the mural decorations of the church of Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile as well as those at the Palais de Justice in Paris.
