Lot Essay

Joseph Roth was a retailer located in London, circa 1877-82. According to Victoria Bergesen, Majolica, London, 1989, p. 158, the only recorded majolica pieces with his mark are a wall pocket and a jug. He was known to specialize in importing Continental majolica so it is likely that these examples are not English.
