This helmet is a rare example with multiple rim holes for the attachment of a lining fabric. It has been suggested in the above publication that the abstract motif may represent either a lightning bolt, a pair of antlers, a sacred tree or possibly a stylized winged sun. For a further discussion on Urartian helmets, cf. E. Rehm, Kykladen und Alter Orient, Karlsruhe, 1997, pp. 209-211, pls. 383-385.
