The holes over the crown of the head were probably for the attachment of a central crest and additional bull's horns to enhance the ferocity of the warrior. Cf. Exhibition catalogue, S. Cassani (ed.), The Art of the Italic Peoples from 3000 to 300 B.C., Geneva, 1993, p. 363, no. 240 for a similar helmet with surviving bull's horns and traces of decorative perimeter band.
