A HELLENISTIC BRONZE HELMET OF PILOS TYPE AND CUIRASS

The helmet tapering to a high crown, pierced for crest attachment, with everted brow and neck-guards, the front moulded with a central peak flanked by a pair of stylized volutes, each side with two rivet holes for cheekpieces, restored; and a naturalistically modelled muscled cuirass, possibly for a cavalryman, in the form of a breastplate with copper nipples, above each a riveted Seilenos mask with ring attachment (one restored), each mask with characteristic pointed ears and detailed flowing beard and moustache, the right side with hinge mechanism for closure, the left with two further attachment rings emerging from openwork palmettes, four loops above the lower edge; the muscled backplate with two riveted hinge plates on the shoulders, each with scalloped border and one with hinge pin intact, with further side hinges and rings for attachment, some restoration
