A ROMAN 'IMPERIAL GALLIC' TYPE IRON HELMET
MID-1ST CENTURY A.D.
The restored helmet with hemispherical crown, the eyebrows formed of three curving relief lines, three steps to the occiput above the broad flaring neck-guard, two bossed rivets at the side of the brow holding the cheekpiece hinges, a fluted bronze alloy browband and iron brow piece with flanged bronze strip on the front, with ear-guards, repaired and extensively restored with modern cheekpieces
