Cf. Exhibition catalogue, A Passion for Antiquities: Ancient Art from the Collection of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman, The J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, 1994, p. 288, no. 149 for a close parallel.

The murmillo appears to have derived his name from a Greek term for a fish due to the resemblence of his crested helmet to a fish tail.
