Rajasthan, Mewar, Late 19th Century
gouache heightened with gold on paper, Salam Singh shown smoking a hookah under the canopy of a howdah accompanied by an attendant, mahout and foot attendants, the large bull elephant painted and bejewelled, lines of black Devanagari to upper and lower borders, mounted -- 29 x 19.5cm. (water stained, minor areas repainted).
