AN UNUSUAL CLOISONNE ENAMEL CONG VASE
QIANLONG INCISED FOUR-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

The tall rectangular vase is enamelled on each facet with two columns of Daoist trigrams in gilt, flanking detached scrolls and ruyi heads, the scroll designs repeated in the short cylindrical mouth, and raised on a tapered gilt-bronze foot ring

Lot Essay

Cloisonné enamel vases of this form are extremely rare, although cong-form vases were produced in porcelain glazed in a variety of colours during the Qianlong period. Another Qianlong cloisonné enamel vase of this form is recorded, sold in Hong Kong, 2 November 1994, lot 324.
