A SMALL CLOISONNE ENAMEL HEXAGONAL BOX AND COVER
WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN CLOISONNE ENAMEL AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)

The flattened cover is enamelled with seven daisies in red, yellow, blue and turquoise borne on a densely scrolling vine against a red ground, the sides of the cover with camellia blossoms on alternating turquoise and lapis-blue grounds, the box with further daisy scrolls, the base with the reign mark enamelled in red on a green-ground rectangle bordered with ruyi heads on a turquoise ground

Lot Essay

This box belongs to a small group of cloisonné pieces bearing prominent enamelled Wanli marks within a rectangle and encircled by ruyi heads. The pieces in this category often share similarities in decoration and colour.
