Lot Essay

This striking oil study shows ghillies at night, spearing salmon with pronged forks, by the light of a blazing torch carried by their companion. It is the smaller of two different versions of the subject sold in Landseer's studio sale.

We are grateful to Richard Ormond for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
