Lot Essay

Between 1845 and 1868 Landseer executed a large number of chalk drawings, many of which were for an album of twenty prints entitled The Forest and depict various aspects of deer behaviour and deer hunting. Executed in coloured chalks these drawings are lovingly finished and carefully studied works.
