Lot Essay

Born in Edinburgh, William Marshall Brown studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Schools and at South Kensington, London. He was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1928 and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1929. Children playing on windswept beaches or breezy fishing villages were amongst his favourite subjects.
