Throughout his life Oppenheimer took an interest in Kirkcurdbright, he was a member of the Town Council from 1913 to 1919, and pictures of the town dominated his oeuvre between the Wars. He excelled in capturing the light on water and the sunlight and shadow on buildings in the town and around the harbour.
