The daughter of artist James Watt, Alison Watt is a painter of figures and portraits in interiors. Her canvases are painted in a meticulously crafted manner in pale colours which remain within a close tonal range, and her work is full of idiosyncratic symbolism. More often than not her paintings are peopled by self-portraits, although, as she admits, these are idealised versions.
