Lot Essay

Les Ambassadeurs was one of the most elegant of the café-concerts along the Champs Elysée. Away from Montmartre these café-concerts attracted a more elegant clientele and were the subject of prints and monotypes by Degas and others.
In this masterpiece of color printing, Lautrec conveys the lighting of the outdoor stage with the pink of the chanteuse illuminated by the limelight against the deep blue of the summer sky.
