In the summer of 1899, Lautrec and Paul Viaud de la Teste visited Le Havre, the major French port where they found entertainment in the many bars and taverns. British sailors congregated at the Star, which specialized in British female performers and here Lautrec sketched Miss Dolly, the barmaid, in sailor costume.
This impression bears a dedication to Edmond Calmèse, Lautrec's Parisian neighbor.
