Lucian Freud has been producing some of the finest figurative drawings and etchings of our time. His lines are of an older, more intimate style of drawing, however now, expertly integrated with his own personal feel of his subjects. This rare print of Lawrence Gowing (a painter and art historian friend of Freud's) started out as a simple, more typical, etching, but after printing two proofs, Freud heavily reworked the plate with areas of stop-out varnish and pitting to create a more experimental and expressionistic print.
