NOTE:
Qiu Sui, also known as Jifang, was a native of Qiantang. He was the son of Qiu Wan, although his dates are not known. In Liu Jiu'an's Song Yuan Ming Qing Shuhuajia Zhuangshi Zuopin Nianbiao (A Chronology of Paintings from the Song to Qing dynasties), there is an entry for Qui Jia, also son of Qiu Wan and born in 1647. A painting of flowers by Qiu Jia painted in 1722 is housed in the Shanghai Museum. It is thus that the dates of Qiu Sui can be roughly deduced, being the brother of Qiu Jia, to be in the mid-17th to 18th centuries. The present work can be dated to either 1671 or 1731, both being xinhai year. For brief biographies of Qiu Sui and Qiu Jia, see Zhongguo Meishujia Renming Cidian, Shanghai Renmin Meishu Chubanshe, 1981, p.1234. For works of Qiu Jia, see Liu Jiu'an, Song Yuan Ming Qing Shuhuajia Zhuangshi Zuopin Nianbiao, Shanghai Shuhua Chubanshe, 1997, pp.394, 616
