The Buddha-cut, or officially referred to as "fancy shaped Buddha" by The International Gemmological Institute (IGI), is a diamond polished in the shape of a meditating Buddha. Designed and patented in 1995, this unique cut is much like modern brilliant cuts and consists of 33 crown facets, 21 pavilion facets and a culet, with faceted girdle. For religious reasons, the head of the finished Buddha-cut diamond must be free of inclusions.
