Little is known about the artist who was active in Middelburg and The Hague. There he painted portraits, landscapes and still lifes with dead game (see R. van Eijnden & A. van der Willigen, Geschiedenis der Vaderlandsche Schilderkunst, III, 1820, pp. 154-5).
