Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr H.-U. Beck for confirming the attribution, on the basis of a photograph. In his opinion the picture is to be dated to 1650-1657. The picture is comparable in style and date to the painting signed and dated 1657 in the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm (H.-U. Beck, Künstler um Jan van Goyen, 1991, p. 288, no. 795, illustrated).
