A PAIR OF LARGE FAMILLE ROSE FIGURES OF ELEPHANTS
The porcelain Jiaqing (1796-1820), the cloisonné 19th Century
Naturalistically modelled standing foursquare and turning their heads to the left and right, the bodies and heads finely enamelled pale brown and over-pencilled in black to simulate hair, caparisonned with a polychrome chevron harness around its rump and shoulder, a colourful saddle-cloth and howdah over the back decorated with a ribbonned chime suspended over a horse galloping through breaking waves, each bearing a detachable cloisonné enamel archaistic gu-shaped vase decorated with lotus on a pale aubergine ground, minor restoration to porcelain
