Circa 1760-70
Enamelled at the centre with a mahout on his elephant holding a whip in his right hand, within four floral pink enamel and gilt sprigs, the border enamelled in bianco-sopra-bianco with scrolling foliage below iron-red and gilt spearheads at the shaped rim, minor underside rim chips
9 in. (23 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

This central scene was used within at least three different border designs between 1760 and 1790, and those with the bianco-sopra-bianco design such as on the present example represents the earlier services.
