Lot Essay

For the plate, see D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p.425. However, Mr. Howard has since discovered that both these two services, and a third made in circa 1775, were ordered for Joseph Aguilar of Jamaica who married in about 1770 Rebecca Lousada of Kingston, Jamaica. Both families were wealthy sugar plantation owners. See also ibid. p.631 for the 1775 service.
